서예가 및 문인화가로 활동 중인 사공홍주씨(대구경북서예가협회 이사장)가 서화의 보급과 전수, 대중화는 물론 세계화를 위해 폭넓은 교육을 하는 한국서화평생교육원은 국내에서는 유일하게 서예를 전문적으로 가르치는 것은 물론 지하철 역사(대구 수성구 만촌역 지하 1층)에 자리 잡은 평생교육원이라는 데서 눈길을 끈다.
사공홍주 이사장은 “한국에서 서예가 사양세에 접어들었다. 대학에서 서예과가 사라지고 서예를 배우려는 사람도 줄고 있다. 이런 상황에서 한국서화평생교육원이 중심이 돼 서예를 되살리고자 한다”며 “지하철 만촌역에 자리 잡아 어르신들이 부담없이 찾을 수 있고 장년층과 노년층을 비롯해 젊은층도 배울 수 있는 서예 관련 프로그램이 많은 것이 한국서화평생교육원의 장점”이라고 설명했다.
교육프로그램은 한글서예, 한문서예, 문인화를 비롯해 일본어, 중국어, 경서, 차문화예절, 서각, 전각, 한국화, 캘리그래피, 민화, 한자급수 등 다양하다. 수강료는 각 과목당 3개월 기준 6만~9만원이다.
